Why should I take prenatal vitamins?
It is essential both for getting pregnant and for preparing your body to develop and nurture a healthy fetus. Prenatal vitamins help you supply your body with the necessary nutrients to achieve a pregnancy and when you are pregnant they have ingredients that help prevent neural tube defects and the healthy development of your baby in addition to covering your nutritional needs.
Who should take prenatal vitamins and for how long?
Our rule is: when you're thinking about it, when you're trying and when the time has come. Any woman who is thinking of becoming pregnant, is trying or is pregnant in addition to visiting her doctor should start taking prenatal vitamins. The recommendation of our experts is to start taking them from the moment you are thinking about it, if you are going to undergo assisted reproduction treatments at least three months before and throughout the pregnancy.
What is the difference between folic acid and folate?
Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate. Although folic acid is the best known form, it does not mean that it is the best absorbed in your body. We have chosen methylfolate because it is the "active" form of folate, that is, it is the form that your body assimilates better and faster. It is believed that up to a third of adults have a genetic variation that prevents the metabolism of folic acid, which results in a higher concentration of homocysteine. Studies have shown that the 5-methyltetrahydrofolate that we use is of greater benefit for these people because it prevents this accumulation.
